Djinn - aka Jann, Ghul, Shaitan, Ifrit, , Marid
History
Djinn are the oldest of the Dark Matter breeds. This age has given them a confidence that has lead them to call themselves the most powerful creatures on earth. The stories told about their all powerful race didn’t help deflate their egos any. When they were a young breed the Djinn would use their new found magick powers to help those in need around them. Soon however their arrogance got the better of them, and they began to twist their helping into simple pranks. Their true animosity toward humans started in ancient times when a king asked the Djinn for help against an invading army. The Ifrit class offered to fight, and were easily able to beat back the invading army. After the defeat, the djinn were treated with great appreciation. The Djinn began to take advantage of the reverence, and enjoyed playing nastier pranks on humans. The king was extremely displeased with this and through the djinn's own magick was able to bind them to everyday objects. This betrayal angered the djinn, and most find great pleasure in causing disdain in human's lives. So vain and proud are Djinn that within their own kind they have a segmented and differentiated themselves into classes. There are the Jann, Ghul, Shaitan, Ifrit and Marid, and each class of Djinn are more powerful than the last. The Djinn are well known in stories and even religious texts as being adept magick workers. Jann are the weakest of the djinn, although they are certainly no slouch with magick. These are the most common class to interact with humans, and for the most part enjoy their company. The Janns live in oasis, and will hide oasis from people they don't think deserve being helped. Ghul are known for their foul mood, and dwell in burial grounds or uninhabited places. Some Ghul like to lure humans out into the desert at night, and attack them once they have them isolated. The Shaitan knows 7 or 8 types of magick, and have reached a magick level where they manipulate human actions by mere suggestions. The Shaitan likes to attach themselves to people in order to act as the negative half to a conscious. They make their home in mountains where rocks and water are hot, such as volcanoes. The Ifrit are described as being malicious, rebellious and with evil intent they try to sabotage 'wishes'. They approach people who they know are full of want, and will make their dreams come true only twisting it back on the "wisher". The Ifrit live underground, frequent ruins, and are known for their strength and cunning. Most powerful of all are the Marid, and are the most dangerous of all the classes. Marid only help important people with responsibilities. Their magic knowledge is extensive, and by this time they have reached at least 2,000 years old. Apparently they also like to cause shooting stars, sandstorms, and whirlwinds in order to cause chaos amongst the humans. They like to live in open waters, and are the most powerful and arrogant of the Djinn. Marid do not wish to share their magick knowledge with humans so to make it difficult they require battle, imprisonment or sacrifices to prove their superiority. Djinn are also known to cause disease, and often carry around a small vial around their necks for just such an occasion.
Description
Each of the djinn classes prefer a humanoid form over any other. The higher the magick capacity, the more humanlike in appearance they are able to achieve. However all of the djinn have multiple arms, and some form of animalistic characteristic attributed to the places they dwell. They also are known to show as strong wind, dirt devils, and even as strange smokey human-like figures. Occasionally some of the djinn like to appear in animal guise. For example the Ghul have appeared as hyenas, and the Marid have appeared as large squid.
